What Is White-Label HR Software and Who Is It For?

White-label HR software lets you put your own name and logo on a ready-made HR system. Here's what that means, who it suits and what to check before you buy.

You've probably used white-label products without knowing it. The supermarket's own brand of cereal, a phone network that runs on another company's towers, a bank card made by someone else. The product is built by one company and sold under another company's name.

Software works the same way. White-label HR software is a complete HR system that you can brand as your own. Your logo, your company name, your colours. Your users never see the original maker.

How it works

The software company builds and maintains the product. You buy a license that allows you to remove their branding and add yours. From then on, everyone who logs in sees your brand on the web app, in emails and, ideally, on the mobile app too.

You get a finished product without spending months or years building one.

Who uses white-label HR software?

There are two main groups.

Companies using it for their own team

Some businesses simply want their HR system to feel like their own. When employees open the app and see the company logo, it feels like part of the workplace, not another outside tool to put up with. That helps people actually use it.

Larger groups with several businesses also like having one consistent internal brand across all of them.

Businesses selling it to others

This is the bigger use. IT companies, consultants, payroll bureaus and software resellers use white-label HR software to offer their own HR product to clients. Instead of building software from scratch, they launch with a ready product under their own name and focus on sales and support.

For them, white-label is the fastest way into the HR software market.

The benefits

You launch quickly. Building HR software properly takes years. Attendance, leave and payroll all have a lot of edge cases. A white-label product has already solved them.

Your brand gets the credit. Customers build a relationship with you, not with a supplier in the background.

Less development cost. You're not paying a team of developers to build and maintain everything.

Someone else handles updates. The original maker keeps improving the product while you focus on your customers.

What to check before you buy

  • Is it fully white-label? Some products only let you change the logo and leave their name in other places. Check the web app, emails and mobile app.
  • Is there a mobile app you can brand? Employees expect one.
  • Can you host it yourself? This gives you control over data, servers and costs.
  • Is it actively developed? Look for a public change log with regular releases.
  • Can you customize it? Having the source code means you can add features your clients ask for.
  • Is there a version for selling to many clients? If you plan to resell, you'll want multi-tenant SaaS, where each client gets their own separate account.

LiteHRM and Inseeda

LiteHRM is a 100% white-label, self-hosted HR system, with your branding throughout, including the Android and iOS apps. It's a good fit if you want branded HR software for your own company or to install for individual clients.

If you want to run your own HR software business with many clients on one platform, Inseeda is the SaaS version of LiteHRM, built for resellers. We cover that in more detail in how to start your own HR software business.
