How to Start Your Own HR Software Business Without Building It From Scratch

Want to sell HR software without spending years building it? Here's a simple, step-by-step way to launch your own HR SaaS business on a white-label platform.

Every business with employees needs HR software, and many small companies still don't have any. That makes HR software a great business to be in.

The hard part is building it. A proper HR system needs employee records, attendance, leave, payroll, permissions, mobile apps and a lot of small details that take years to get right. Most people who want to sell HR software don't want to spend those years.

The good news is you don't have to. Here's how to launch your own HR software business using a white-label SaaS platform.

What "white-label SaaS" means here

SaaS means customers use the software online and pay a subscription, usually monthly or yearly.

White-label means the software carries your brand, not the original developer's.

Put together, you run an online HR product under your own name. Each customer, often called a tenant, signs up on your website, gets their own separate account and pays you a subscription. You own the customer relationship and set the prices.

If you're new to the idea, our post on what white-label HR software is explains the basics.

Step 1: Pick your market

Before anything technical, decide who you're selling to. Some ideas:

  • Small businesses in your city or country
  • A specific industry, like retail, clinics or manufacturing
  • Your existing IT or accounting clients

A focused market is easier to reach and easier to talk to. "HR software for clinics in my region" beats "HR software for everyone".

Step 2: Choose a white-label SaaS platform

Look for a platform that:

  • Lets each client have their own account, ideally on their own subdomain
  • Has an admin panel where you manage clients, plans and subscriptions
  • Lets you connect payment gateways so clients can pay online
  • Is fully white-label, including the mobile app
  • Can be hosted on your own server, so you control the data and the costs
  • Has a demo you can show to clients

Step 3: Set up your server

With a self-hosted platform, the software runs on your own hosting account. You choose the data centre region, which can matter if your clients care about where their data is stored. Some vendors include free installation, which makes this step much easier.

Step 4: Create your plans

Decide what you'll charge. A common approach is two or three plans based on things like the number of employees or the features included. Offer monthly and yearly billing, with a small discount for yearly.

A free trial helps a lot. Letting a business try the software with their own data is often the moment they decide to buy.

Step 5: Build your website and start selling

Your website should clearly explain who the product is for, what it does and how much it costs. Add a sign-up button so new clients can create an account on their own.

Then start marketing. Talk to your existing contacts, post helpful content (like this blog) and show the demo to anyone who'll watch. Your first five customers will teach you more than any plan.

Step 6: Support your customers well

In HR software, good support is what keeps people paying. Answer questions quickly, help new clients set up their first payroll and listen to what they ask for. Happy customers are also your best source of referrals.

Launching with Inseeda

Inseeda is the SaaS version of LiteHRM, made for exactly this. It's fully white-label and self-hosted. Each client is a tenant with their own subdomain, and you manage tenants, plans and subscriptions from the admin panel. You can also set up payment gateways for online subscriptions.

It comes with a one-time free installation on your server and a demo client account you can use to show the product to prospects. You can start your SaaS business within 24 hours of setup, and a white-labeled Android and iOS app is available as an add-on.

Try both sides yourself in the Inseeda live demo, then compare the Inseeda plans.
